About

Activate Community Project was born out of the observation that many children after school do no attend clubs or other after school activities. Instead, they remain at home and often spend countless hours on devices or screens. Further consequences to this is the development of anti-social behaviours and an overall passion for life.

In May 2023, Activate became a registered charity.
The objects or aims of the charity are as follows:

To advance in life, relieve the needs of and help children and young people aged 8 and over who are resident in Aldenham and Radlett and the surrounding areas, and in particular but not exclusively those from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, by:

a) providing recreational and leisure time activities provided in the interest of social welfare, designed to improve their conditions of life;

b) providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.

Activities we do

The aim is to offer a variety of activities seven days a week. These would be after school from 4.30pm to 6pm Monday to Friday. And then on the weekends as well, times to be confirmed. Activate will look to get to a full seven day service as soon as it can. Part of that depends on volunteers and finance.

Sports and coaching

Sports are brilliant way to engage children. It brings out a bit of competition, gets them to run around and also develop their skills in a particular sport. We’ll be starting with football with football coaching. Look out for when our weekly slots open up on the registration page.

Arts and crafts

A great way to explore creativity and discover new ideas is by getting kids to engage in arts and crafts. Through this kids can express themselves and explore new mediums and techniques in which to communicate and idea or a thought.

Nature

Just out in the grounds of the Gurukula of the school gives opportunities for doing gardening, building dens or just learning more about nature. This can be very soothing and relaxing as well as an opportunity for kids to get their hands dirty.

Drama

Drama is another way to encourage expression, our activities would be based around a drama games rather than creating productions. The games give children confidence, the ability to think quickly and of course have a good laugh.

Cooking

Just out in the grounds of the Gurukula of the school gives opportunities for doing gardening, building dens or just learning more about nature. This can be very soothing and relaxing as well as an opportunity for kids to get their hands dirty.

Yoga and meditation

Yoga and meditation are great to help children calm their minds. It is an element that we try to bring in to all sessions that we run. Ten or fifteen minutes of meditation can do a child a world of good. It also is something once they get the hang of that they can do at home.

Skills

This is a big area that we want to open up within Activate. Skills to really challenge and develop a child’s mind, whether they are graphic design based, or engineering, they are all practical and can inspire children for a future career.
